Interactive whiteboards are a fantastic invention, and the uptake of whiteboards within UK schools has been a great success.
The downside of interactive whiteboards has always been the cost of installing them into schools, and the on-going tussles between teachers who want access to the classroom that has the interactive whiteboard!

With continued development of touchscreen computer interfaces, and the growing excitement around Microsofts apparent touch screen predecessor to the Vista operating system, the amalgamation of the two technologies seems only a step away.

Irtouch based in the far east have developed a unique product…a clip on frame/screen, which fits onto any standard size PC monitor. The screen then projects a series of infra red beams across the surface of the computer monitor, and communicating with the PC software installed onto the connected PC allows for full touch screen interaction.

The biggest advantage of this is obviously having the power to transform any desktop PC into a interactive touch screen display.

The second advantage, and one which may excite many teachers, is the ability to simply remove the IR screen, and attach it to a computer in another room of your school…a truly portable interactive whiteboard!
